Raining Pitchforks is dedicated To All Children Who Go To Bed Tonight Afraid. This is a book about my experience growing up in an erratic, dangerous and unstable world. It begins when I was seven and ends at age 17; a time frame that encompasses a 10 year span of events with a disastrous ending. Along the way I encounter several important relatives and friends who help and hurt. This remarkable, fast moving story is about courage, optimism and loss. Our American family was changed for generations by World War II. What is now called PTSD took a toll on all of us. It is a true story but some details are changed due to privacy. I hope you will find my story interesting. I also hope that you will take home my underlying message that you should never give up. No matter how harsh your life is difficulties can be overcome. It is filled with a message of optimism that someone else in a similar situation will find encouragement to take hold of their lives and move forward. After I left the ‘embrace’ of my Kansas family, my life changed completely. I found a new family in friends and went on to enjoy myriad pleasurable times and a full, complete life. I believe the experiences from my childhood – both bad and good – gave me the strength and determination to go forth into the world and build the wonderful life I currently enjoy. I am fine now…I just wanted you to know this before you read.

This book is written by an on-the-front-lines woman, deep from the trenches dug by a PTSD father. For anyone who has ever been beaten, abused, tossed between love and utter recklessness, anyone who has been effected by PTSD, this is a must read. It's real, unequivocal, at times so hard to bear, then at once comical and compassionate, but more than any of this, it is a stunning message of hanging on to one's sanity and life, of never ever giving in to that which destroys, and the intense and immense power of hope and triumph. It is also a message of never giving up, no matter how horrific life gets. It's a book that belongs to humanity and it's pain, it's determination and unsinkability. Anna Abbi, has both raked and uplifted my heart with her story and I want more from her. Here and now, I want to extend my deep regard for her personal strength and power, her courage to even write this book and her incredible living that is proof that surviving and even thriving through immense fear and pain can be done and done extremely well.Product details

Raining Pitchforks Based on a True Story Anna K Abbi Riley Fletcher Books Reviews
Shows what war can do to a family. How it changes sand destroys a person. A little too bloody and too much sex. A shocking story.
This book took me on a wild, bumpy, and gritty ride through a childhood unlike any I've known. Lizzie is a little girl growing up in Topeka, Kansas. Her young life swings wildly between being loved and treasured, or abused and neglected. She navigates an often dangerous way amid a memorable cast of characters ranging from a kindly grandmother who runs a whorehouse, to a PTSD-ravaged, violent father with no limits. Each day is unpredictable – Liz is alternately caught up in turbulent family dramas, or makes a short-lived escape to the refuge of her grandmother's home or the open prairie. Engaging background stories of her mother, father, grandmother, and other relatives are interwoven with Liz's own tale. Be prepared for an explosive ending! I was caught up in Liz's story, and surprised to see how a young child handled heart-wrenching trauma with a strength and courage beyond her years. This book will stay with you long after you turn the last page.
Enjoyable touching read, I could relate to the story. Nice story to have ready when its windy and raining outside. Thank you Anna Abbi
Enjoyable and at times emotional. The sexualized parts could have been toned down a bit and not have been so descriptive. I have recommended the book to others had look forward to the sequel
Wow! This was a very great read, I seriously could not put it down. Anna tells such a heartfelt story of her life growing up. Gives you the message of what doesn t kill you makes you stronger. I highly reccomend reading!
This is a fascinating account of human resilience and courage. It describes the abuse and chaos perpetrated on his family by a survivor of WW2 with essentially untreated PTSD. It is also the story of how a young girl's inner strength and intelligence helped her survive and flourish. The people who populate this book are very human, some wonderful and some awful. One gets a good taste of what their lives were like after the war. It is not an easy book to read, but in the end I found it rewarding and I am eager to read the promised sequel.
How dramatic could life in Kansas be? Raining Pitchforks reveals the intense world that exists beyond the expansive prairie and the lonely farmhouses that may come to mind when one thinks of Kansas. Her unapologetic and honest recounting of a turbulent childhood brings to life the friends and family of her Kansas home. At times brutally frank, the author weaves the events of her life in a tapestry of vibrant and colorful moments; painful and promising, the reader comes to understand the incredible strength of the human spirit. A vivid portrayal of the complexity of individual character and the unpredictable and chaotic madness that melded into the memories and story of a young girl growing up in Kansas; this is a story that is touching and inspiring and causes one to know that even in the most desperate of times hope exists. Fascinating and intriguing, this compelling tale of Lizzie's adversity and her ability to see love and kindness in others alludes to the essence of resiliency.
